Our History

The Galveston County Economic Alliance is a non-profit organization founded in 1998 and funded by a membership composed of individuals, cities, businesses and industries within Galveston County. The Alliance was the vision of Jim Yarbrough, County Judge of Galveston County. He brought a commitment to create growth and unified economic development for the county.

Our Focus

The Alliance is focusing its efforts in several areas to accentuate the opportunities and assets of the County, while addressing and resolving challenges:

Economic Development - creates jobs by working to retain Galveston County's companies and to encourage expansions and relocations.

Regional Planning - works to improve the business climate through transportation, infrastructure and environmental planning.

Regional Issues - focuses on issues that influence the region's economic prosperity such as education, workforce and quality of life.

Member Services - works to increase the economic vitality of member companies through business development programs, networking events and volunteer activities.

Government Relations - lobbies at the local, state and federal levels on issues that affect the County.

Tanger Outlet Center Mall - Tuesday, September 06, 2011
The ground breaking ceremony for the Texas City Simon Tanger Factory Outlet Center was held August 30th. Steven Tanger, president and CEO of Tanger Factory Outlet Centers and John Klein, president of Simon Premium Outlets, attended the ceremony. The facility will include 350,000 square feet in first phase of the project. It is located on 55 acres, west of Interstate 45 and south of Holland Road. Phase one will include 90 stores and is expected to be a major draw to the local area. It will be similar to the mall located in San Marcos, Texas.
The Outlet is expected to generate $8 million in yearly sales tax revenue, create 400 construction jobs, 900 full and part time retail and management positions and be as successful as the San Marcus centers.
